The Christmas Pyramid is a centuries old tradition in Germany. It is a kind of carousel with several levels some depicting Christian motifs, such as angels or manger scenes, and others with more secular motifs such as mountain-folk, forests, and other scenes from the everyday life of people in the Ore Mountains. The spinning motion of the pyramids is traditionally achieved with the help of candles whose rising heat spins a propeller above. Christmas pyramids serve a mainly decorative purpose today, filling children and adults alike with holiday cheer. Hardly anyone can withdraw from the romantic charm of this old tradition. |
More and more this
tradition was developed into big Christmas pyramid sale stands. They attract a strongly
increasing number of visitors on Christmas fairs every year.
At present there are mor than 1000 christmas fairs and countless other public events (for example: festivals of the city) in Germany. In America the most famous christmas events are Chicago - Christkindlmarket and New York -Macy's Santaland. In Asia the grand christmas events are in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapur. In Japan the most splendid christmas markets are in Sapporo and Osaka. |
